Operation Transformation in Kilbarron

In October 2012, local man John Hogan asked a few friends to join him in a 10 week effort to lose weight and to help raise funds for Cancer Research.  As word spread about ‘Operation Transformation – Kilbarron’, seventeen people turned up for the 1st weigh-in.  Over the following 10 weeks, Wednesday night in Hannigan’s became a social event where the weigh-ins were supervised by Kathy Slattery, Carmel Boyle and Jane Hannigan.  In addition to a change to healthier eating habits, the group also increased their fitness levels by starting weekly Boxercise classes in the local hall but mainly by walking.  As one local commented – ‘ I wish I could put a toll on the road outside my gate – there’s so many walkers passing every day!’  By mid-December the group had lost a combined total of 21stone, but also had raised the staggering amount of €2514 for Cancer Research – Crumlin Hospital.

The group resumed the weekly Wednesday weigh-ins in January, and its great to see so many new people joining – 32 at last count.  Boxercise classes continue every Wednesday evening at 8pm in Kilbarron Hall and the walking is still going strong. Well done everyone – keep it up!!!
