Terryglass Arts Festival is delighted to announce a series of master classes with Roland Jaquarello, a respected and experienced director in both U.K. and Irish theatres. Aimed at actors and aspiring actors (16 years +) it is one of the highlights of this year’s Arts Festival and a must attend for those interested in Drama.

Four themes: Character, Emotion, The Body and Text will be explored in the master classes. Although some common issues and challenges will be interlinked within the four separate sessions, each one stands alone. These sessions are practically based and not for those who want to sit around in a circle and listen and make notes.

The themes speak for themselves, the first three being lively and practical sessions in which the participants have to play a key role. The themes of ‘Character’ and Emotion’ explore ways in which the actors can express the essence of a character; and ‘The Body’ will help you to learn and practise ways in which you can use the body in this task. The final session, ‘Text’, will be based on an interpretation of a text. The choice of text may depend on the numbers and gender balance of the group for that session but it is hoped that it will be “Our Lady of Sligo” by Sebastian Barry. Participants will be expected to get a look at the text prior to the session.

The master classes will take place on Friday 15th August and Saturday 16th August with two sessions daily. The themes of Character and Emotion will be explored at Friday’s master classes with The Body and Text the subject of Saturday’s master class. The master classes are of two hours duration and take place from 10am to 12noon and from 2pm to 4pm.

Festival Chairperson Andrea Egan said that this was a huge coup for Terryglass Arts Festival.

“We are really pleased that Roland has agreed to present these master classes. Roland is a director of international renown and has worked in many U.K. and Irish theatres including The Abbey, The Lyric Belfast and The Royal Court London.”

“He has also worked with the crème de la crème of actors including Liam Neeson, Fiona Shaw, Colm Meaney, Julie Walters and Jeremy Irons. He will be a huge inspiration to all budding young actors,” concluded Andrea.

Please note to dress appropriately for the workshops: light shoes and clothing suitable for physical activity would be best.
