The ‘Tip of the Week’- Preventing theft of farm machinery. (1) Store your tools and smaller machinery in secure buildings close to the farmhouse. Photograph machinery and tools, keep a record of serial numbers and colours. Mark the property with a unique identifiable mark in both an obvious and secret location. (2) Restrict access to your farmyard, install gates and fix them to sturdy concrete or metal posts. Keep them locked and consider appropriate signing such as ‘Private Property’. (3) Consider installing CCTV in vulnerable areas out of view of the farmhouse. Install good lighting and illuminate areas viewed from the house by CCTV.
