THE LATE PATRICK CARMODY
The death occurred on September 7th of Patrick Carmody, Carmey. Removal took place from Keller’s Funeral Home the following Monday, to Kilbarron Church and after Requiem Mass burial was in Lislaughtin Cemetery, Ballylongford, Co. Kerry. Pat who was in his 83rd year was a native of Tarbet Co. Kerry, he had served as a Garda Detective in Dublin Castle and on his retirement came to reside on his farm in Carney. He was a very friendly person with a great love of his horses, also a deeply religious man. Sympathy is extended to his family, Mary, daughters Mary and Elaine, son Patrick, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends.
TIDY TOWNS COMPETITION
Our congratulations are extended to Terryglass on winning a silver medal in this year’s awards and to Kilbarron on coming joint fourth in the category. These results highlight the enormous amount of work that goes on throughout the year, well done to all involved.
BIRTHDAY GREETINGS
Birthday greeting are extended to Jimmy O’Meara, Kevinstown, who celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends in Hannigan’s Bar, Kilbarron last Saturday. We wish Jimmy many more years of health and happiness,
SHANNON RANGERS FC
We had another historical weekend gone by, when our new U/16 team took to the field in Nenagh against Nenagh Celtic last Saturday lost 5-0, hard luck and well done to all the players and coaches who got things of the ground with games and coaching, they can only improve. The junior team played Clodagh (b) in Ballinderry last Sunday in the league and came away with a 3-3 draw, after great goals from Darren Carroll, John Flannery and Barry Cahalan, but Clodagh somehow against the run of play drew level before the 90 minutes.
All teams will be notified by text of the games/training and players of all teams reg/membership to be paid asap.
NORTH TIPP HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING
As part of Ireland’s ‘Biggest Coffee Morning’ Bridie Cahalan and colleagues from Terryglass ICA Guild will hold a coffee morning in Terryglass Community Hall on Thursday 20th September from 9.30am until 1pm in aid of North Tipperary Hospice Home Care Movement. Your continued support will be greatly appreciated to help to maintain the hospice homecare service we have in place for cancer patients and their carers in the area.
So come and join us for a cup of tea/coffee and some home baking, we especially invite you to come and avail of this opportunity to join others for a chat that morning.
Official Nth.Tipp. Hospice collection boxes will be in The Derg and Paddy’s Bar, Terryglass for contributions if you cannot attend the coffee morning.
SHANNON ROVERS CAMOGIE CLUB
Shannon Rovers Camogie Club has launched its own website on the back of becoming the County Intermediate League Champions for 2012. The new website has fixtures, results, new photographs, slideshows etc., and is well worth a visit. The site can be viewed at http:// www.shannonroverscamogie.com
The girls travelled to Dublin last Saturday to take part in the All Ireland 7’s tournament and went all the way to the final before losing to Clonoulty. Well done to all involved.
TRADITIONAL MUSIC CLASSES
Traditional Music Classes have resumed in Terryglass Hall on Thursdays. Instruments include the fiddle, flute and tin whistle. Beginners and improvers of all ages are welcome. For more details contact John on 087 2869269.

COFFEE MORNING FOR MILFORD HOSPICE
There will be a Coffee Morning in Bridie O’Meara’s house in Ballinderry in aid of Milford Hospice, Limerick, on Thursday 20th September from 10am until 1pm. Please come and join us for a cup of coffee or tea and sample the home baked cakes and tarts while supporting this worthwhile cause. If you cannot attend a donation may be given to Bridie or placed in the collection box in O’Meara’s Dry Cleaners, Borrisokane.
JUMBLE SALE
As the Charity Jumble Sale in Terryglass Community Hall over the Halloween weekend approaches, now is the time to collect all saleable items such as bric-a-brac, toys, books, plants, pictures etc., also unwanted items suitable for raffle prizes. Two days of bargain hunting and much more, there is sure to be something for everyone, so come and don’t miss out on finding something special.
If you require your items to be collected contact Mary McGeeney. Volunteers needed and willing help greatly appreciated especially for the preparation of the sale and the clean-up afterwards.

LET’S CONNECT WITH OUR PEOPLE ABROAD
An estimated 70 million people worldwide are of Irish decent and many claim ‘Irish’ as their primary heritage. They or their ancestors travelled abroad from parishes across Ireland and are now dispersed throughout the world, making a difference wherever they are- in their communities, through their social networks, or their businesses. Many retain their sense of ‘Irishness’ even though they may be many generations removed from Ireland. They have a contribution to make to our lives, as we have to theirs.
Ireland Reaching Out is a new programme which can support local efforts to invite their diaspora worldwide to connect and become involved in their place of origin. This is an idea which has potential for tourism and economic prospects in our parish.
To further this programme an information meeting will be held in St. Ruadhans Community Hall in Lorrha this Thursday night September 20th at 8pm. All are welcome. If we are going to survive as parish communities the onus is on ourselves.
COMMUNITY ALERT
The ‘Tip of the Week’- is to improve security when out and about. Keep wallets and purses out of sight, held or shoulder bags should be held close to the body and not dangling by the strap. Keep cash to a minimum and only carry credit/debit cards that are needed and be alert when parking and getting out of your vehicle.
BINGO
There is Bingo every Monday in Terryglass Community Hall at 8.30pm sharp organised by the Shannon Rovers GAA Club with great money prizes, including an excellent Jackpot of €1,000. Contact Oliver Darcy for further information. The prizes are excellent with €15, €20 and €50 for a line, two lines and a full house respectively. There is a flyer for €150 each week and the full house if the jackpot isn’t won is €100.

RURAL TRANSPORT
A bus is available to take parishioners from Coolbawn, Ballinderry and Terryglass to the Saturday 8pm Mass in Terryglass and departs from Kilbarron at 7.15pm. For further information or to book a place please contact Loretta Tiernan 067 28066 or Mary Tierney 28167
The bus to Nenagh each Thursday departs Paddy’s, Terryglass at 10am, Ballinderry 10.10, Coolbawn (Molamphy’s) 10.20 arriving in Nenagh at 11am. The bus returns from Nenagh at 2.10pm .We urge you to consider availing of these services, which are free to Travel Pass holders. A bus travels each Friday from Nenagh via Borrisokane and Ballingarry to Bingo in Birr.
A bus also travels to Borrisokane each Monday departing from Terryglass around 1pm, via Ballinderry, Coolbawn and Carney Commons and arrives at 2pm and departs for home at 4pm. Services are door to door and booking can be made by contacting Ken Daly
LOWER ORMOND ACTIVE RETIREMEMT ASSOC
The Lower Ormond group will be dinning out in The Derg, Terryglass, this Monday September 24th. There will be a three course meal at 1.30pm with a choice of roast beef or sea trout, followed by the house speciality cherry trifle or rice pudding. The subsidized cost is just €10. There will be music and dancing afterwards with everyone’s favourite Seanie Gleeson. Names should be given with your meal choice to one of the following immediately: Jimmy Donnelly, Loretta Tiernan, Phyllis O’Meara, Sam Wilson.
On Monday October 8th we will be holding our annual Bric-a-Brac Sale in the Church of Ireland Hall, Borrisokane, and any donations of suitable items will be welcome.
