BOOK LAUNCH
The Shannon Rovers Review 2011 was launched last Sunday. This year’s book recalls the highs and lows of the Rovers in 2011, with articles and photos galore plus a nostalgic look back on years from the past. The book details and gives reaction to Thomas McDonaghs great football win, the Rovers North Intermediate football success, the camogie team’s great U/14 county final win, plus the boys U/13 Plate win and our U/12’s  Go Games win. The book is a must have for every household and is a great stocking filler for Christmas.

FAT TURKEY WALK
Do the ‘Fat Turkey Walk’ on St. Stephen’s Day at 2pm in aid of the Ballinderry Sportsfield Re-development. Walk from the Sportsfield to Paddy’s Bar and meet up with all your old friends home for Christmas, while enjoying the fresh air and beautiful countryside. €10 per person and kids go free. Free ‘cuppa and bacon butty’ in Paddys afterwards.

LITTLE FEET CHRISTMAS PARTY
Little Feet Pre-school will hold its Christmas Party in Kilbarron this Thursday 22nd December at 10am, with tasty treats and games. New starters welcome age 2-5 years. Reopening on Monday 9th January 2012, for information contact Charlene 086 3355884.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the readers a “Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year” and to thank everyone for keeping me up to date with events and club activities.

We welcome into our community Jack Stapleton, who was recently baptised.

DEATH
The death of Joyce Toettcher, Bellevue, Coolbawn, occurred on December 13th after a short illness. A Memorial Service took place in Killodiernan Church, Puckane, last Sunday. Sympathy is extended to her children, relatives and friends.

COMMUNITY ALERT
The ‘Tip of the Week’ is- ‘Fire Prevention Hints’. Make sure your Christmas tree lights have a safe socket connection. Check and follow instructions carefully for proper use of portable heaters, keep away from furniture and curtains. Most fires start in the kitchen so ensure you keep an extinguisher or fire blanket handy. Keep cookers clean, grease is dangerous. Always place pot handles inward and not over heated rings. Be watchful at all times of lit candles and keep out of the reach of children.

BINGO
There is Bingo every Monday in Terryglass Community Hall at 8.30pm sharp organised by the Shannon Rovers GAA Club with great money prizes, including an excellent Jackpot of €1,000. Contact Oliver Darcy for further information. The prizes are excellent with €15, €20 and €50 for a line, two lines and a full house respectively. There is a flyer for €150 each week and the full house if the jackpot isn’t won is €100.
Buses are available from the surrounding area,i.e.Nenagh/Ardcroney/Borrisokane/Ballinderry and Ballingarry/Rathcabbin/Lorrha/Carrigahorig/Terryglass. Buses depart at 7pm and for further information contact Ken Daly 083 4007748 or 067 21988.

RURAL TRANSPORT
A bus is available to take parishioners from Terryglass, Ballinderry and Coolbawn to the Saturday 7.30pm Mass in Kilbarron and departs from Terryglass at 6.45pm.  For further information or to book a place please contact Loretta Tiernan 067 28066 or Mary Tierney 28167.
The bus to Nenagh each Thursday departs Paddy’s, Terryglass at 10am, Ballinderry 10.10, Coolbawn (Molamphy’s) 10.20 arriving in Nenagh at 11am. The bus returns from Nenagh at 2.10pm .We urge you to consider availing of these services, which are free to Travel Pass holders. The bus operator is Ken Daly 083 4007748 or 067 21988 or if you require more information on any route please contact Louise 067 27088.
A bus also travels to Borrisokane each Monday departing from Terryglass around 1pm, via Ballinderry, Coolbawn and Carney Commons and arrives at 2pm and departs for home at 4pm. Services are door to door and booking can be made by contacting Ken Daly.

SHANNON RANGERS FC XMAS PARTY
Last Saturday Rangers held their Christmas Party in Elsie Hogan’s which coincided with the launch of the clubs new kit, which was kindly sponsored by Elsie Hogan’s Bar. A very big thank you to Elsie’s for their sponsorship and support in 2011 and going forward. The club would also like to extend thanks to Larry Dunne who kindly stepped forward to MC on the night and to The Freshmen who provided the entertainment. Congratulations to all the winners of the raffle prizes and a very big thank you to everyone who gave their support on the night, a great time was had by all.

CLUB NEWS
Shannon Rangers FC go into the end of 2011 on the back of four wins in a row and with a break in games from now to the new year we wish to thank all the players and supporters for their massive efforts in 2011, let’s roll into 2012 strongly. There will be no Wednesday training until January, however if anyone wishes to join the club or even join training please contact Damien Moran. Finally the club would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

CHURCH NEWS
Christmas Mass times are as follows: Christmas Eve by Candle Light in Kilbarron at 7.30pm and inTerryglass at 9.30pm. Christmas Day- Family Mass in Terryglass at 9.30am and Kilbarron at 11am.

LOWER ORMOND ACTIVE RETIREMENT ASSOC.
The Lower Ormond ARA celebrated Christmas last week with a great party. Our thanks to the Church of Ireland Hall committee for the use of the premises throughout the year, to Michael Carroll and staff for a delicious meal, to Seanie, Margaret and Rita and our guest singers for the excellent music, to the transition year pupils of Borrisokane Community College for their company and assistance during the year. A very special thank you to all our members for their extraordinary generosity all year and for donating all our Christmas Raffle prizes  Prize winners: Hamper of Olay items, Doreen Britton, Christmas Cake Peg Hogan, Brandy George Harding, 5 Bales of Eco-briquettes Anne Noonan and Peg Hodgins, Christmas Cake Josie Donnelly and other winners too many to name.
The committee wish all members ‘A Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year’ and the club will re-open on Monday 2nd January 2012 from 2-4pm.
