The ‘Tip of the Week’- It is that time of the year again when door to door sales people call offering goods and services such as painting, gutter cleaning, roofing etc. If a person calls offering professional trade services observe the following (1) Tell the caller you never employ people who cold call. (2) Ask for a sales brochure or other documents you can check. (3) Be careful with sales brochures, check phone numbers and addresses. (4) If you are satisfied that the service offered is credible ask for a written itemised quotation for the service (5) Ask for the names of people where they have previously worked. (6) Always seek comparative estimates for the service from established companies. (7) Always use a method of payment that is traceable (8) Never leave strangers in your house. even bona fide workers, unsupervised.  (9) If you think you have become a victim of this sort of crime report it to the Garda.
