LOOKING BACK
What was happening in our parish 20 years ago at the beginning of 1993?
Plans were afoot for the North Tipperary Ploughing Championships to be held in Kilbarron on the Burke and Dennison farms on March 7th.  In February Mrs Mai O’Sullivan was preparing for her imminent retirement from Kilbarron NS after 29 year’s service. The new teacher to the school was Mrs Eimer Brown, who took over classes from Mrs Bernie Grace who filled Mrs Sullivan’s place.
The Shannon Rovers GAA Club Dinner Dance occurred on February 6th in Dooley’s Hotel, Birr, music by the Firesiders. The guests of honour were the 1967-68 North and County Champions.

KILBARRON NS
Kilbarron N S Parent’s Council has produced a beautiful 16 page colour calendar with lovely photos of all the school children and their teachers. The cost is €10 and they are available from Kilbarron N S and Hannigan’s shop.
The Parents Council will also host celebrity chef Nevin Maguire’s cookery demonstration in the Abbey Court Hotel on Tuesday 26th February 2013. Tickets are €25 and are available from Carmel Fox 087 6359492, Hannigan’s, Kilbarron and McDermott’s Pharmacy, Borrisokane.

COMMUNITY ALERT
Can we all continue to keep an eye on our elderly neighbours during the cold weather and enquire if there is anything they need.
The ‘Tip of the Week’ is on Garages and Sheds. Garages and sheds are often full of expensive tools which are ideal for breaking into the rest of the house. Fit strong locks in garages and shed doors and make sure doors are solid enough not to be kicked in. Lock ladders inside the garage and shed. Also take note of the serial numbers of expensive equipment, it makes it more traceable if stolen.

LOWER ORMOND ACTIVE RETIREMENT
The club will reopen again on Monday 7th January from 2-4pm in the Church of Ireland Hall, Borrisokane . We look forward to seeing you for our usual afternoon of gentle exercise for older people, chat. Bingo and refreshments.
